Borchen and its delightful green oases have lots to offer to lovers of nature and to visitors in search of recuperation.

Take a walk through the scented rose-garden at the Mallinckrodt Court or go on the trail of our ancestors and pay a visit to the Stone Chamber and Tumuli in the forest. Perhaps you would also like to take a trip to the Paddling Pool in Etteln, where you can exercise in a natural environment, or find meditative relaxation at the mystic “Vodes Kolk” springs?

Borchen provides an excellent venue for cyclists; it is the gateway to a national network of bicycle routes; the River-Alme-Cycle-Route, the Altenau-Cycle Route, the “Emperor-Route” and the Paderborner-Land-Route all lead through Borchen. Rambling enthusiasts will enjoy walking along the Alte Pilgerweg (the old pilgrims’ route) and the Altenau-Wander-Weg, which are renowned for their natural beauty.

We recommend a visit to the Mallinckrodt Court in Nordborchen. This impressive Tudor-style manor house was built in the 17th Century. It is surrounded by a moat, which is fed by natural springs and protected by a quarry stone wall. “Little Annette”s Temple” is a special feature on these premises. The German author, Annette von Droste-Hülshoff is supposed to have loved spending time here when she visited Borchen, and she is said to have written her famous book, the “Judenbuche” here.

Today, the main house is used for numerous cultural events, seminars and lectures organised by the Volkshochschule. The Mallinckrodt Court also houses a café, where you can relax and refresh yourself in the shade of large trees of the Park. An attractive central playground has been added in the Park just recently. The three-day Christmas-Market on the first weekend of Advent is yet another highlight among the annual events in this historic estate.
